Oman visitor rules generally allow a visitor on a valid short-visit status to use a valid foreign or international driving licence for up to three months from entry, subject to recognition by the authorities. Rental and insurance rules can be stricter.

No. It is not a universal requirement for every tourist or every European licence. Acceptance depends on the country that issued the licence, the original document and the visitor status. Under Easy Drive Oman's current handover policy, an IDP is required for licences issued in Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Iran and the South-East Asian countries listed in our country checker; other licences are pre-checked before confirmation.

No. Current French government travel guidance states that a valid original French driving licence is recognised by the Omani authorities for a short visitor rental and that an IDP is not required by the Omani authorities. The same guidance recommends an Arabic or English translation, or an IDP, only to make roadside checks easier. Easy Drive Oman does not present that recommendation as an insurance requirement and accepts the valid original French licence after the normal passport, entry-status and document checks.

A UK photocard licence is generally accepted for a rental car during the first six weeks of a visit. A paper licence may require a 1949 International Driving Permit. Rental companies and insurers may impose stricter documentation rules.

The issuing country matters, not the driver's nationality or birthplace. Valid original licences from the GCC, Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the other countries shown in our pre-approval checker can normally be reviewed without an IDP. Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Iran and the listed South-East Asian issuing countries require an original national licence plus a valid IDP under Easy Drive Oman's current handover policy.

Yes. We check the country that issued the physical driving licence, the licence type and language, its validity, the visitor entry date and insurer acceptance. Nationality or country of birth alone is not the deciding factor.

The official Oman sources reviewed state a general maximum of three months from entry for eligible visitors using a valid foreign or international licence. We did not find an official general 14-day rule. Country guidance and insurer rules may be stricter.

Airport delivery or collection may be available by prior arrangement. Share the flight number and arrival time, and wait for written instructions about the meeting point and any parking charge.

Every road-legal rental vehicle must have Oman third-party liability insurance. That compulsory cover protects third parties; it does not automatically pay for damage to the rental vehicle. The written quotation must separately state whether the selected vehicle has comprehensive cover or a CDW/LDW arrangement, the applicable excess and the exclusions.

The excess is the renter's contractual contribution for each covered damage or theft incident, up to the amount stated in the signed rental agreement. It is not the same as the security deposit and it is not a promise that every kind of damage is covered. Excluded use, an unauthorised driver or a missing police report can make the renter responsible for more than the excess.

A Collision Damage Waiver may reduce the renter's damage responsibility but does not eliminate every risk. Optional protection can reduce the excess further, subject to exclusions and insurer terms.

Common exclusions include unauthorized drivers, driving under the influence, reckless or illegal use, off-road use without approval, tyre or wheel damage, lost keys, incorrect fuel, interior damage, negligence and driving outside the permitted territory. The signed policy controls.

Yes. Treat an official police report as mandatory for every collision, theft, fire, vandalism, parked-car damage or unknown third-party incident. Without the required report, damage protection may not apply and the renter may be responsible for the full repair cost under the signed agreement.

You must still follow the police and reporting process. Fault and recovery are determined by the official report, insurer and applicable law, not by an informal roadside agreement.

No. Smoking or vaping carries an OMR 25 cleaning charge. Burns or other physical damage are charged separately.

Return the vehicle to the location and time stated in the agreement. A different location requires advance written approval and may incur a collection or parking charge.

Return the car with the agreed fuel level and without new damage. An OMR 10 cleaning charge applies only to excessive dirt, not normal road dust.

Yes, under Easy Drive Oman's document and insurance policy. An Iranian visitor must present the original valid Iranian driving licence together with a valid International Driving Permit, original passport and evidence of entry to Oman. Copies may be used for pre-approval, but the originals are required at handover.

The visitor driving permission no longer applies once you become an Oman resident. Do not continue driving on only your home-country licence or International Driving Permit. You must obtain a valid Oman driving licence before driving or collecting a rental vehicle.

Only licences issued by countries eligible for exchange can use the direct exchange and test-exemption route, and the applicant must meet Royal Oman Police requirements. These include a valid original licence, at least one complete year since issue, an original and copy of the residence card, an approved vision test and blood-group evidence. Final approval belongs to Royal Oman Police.

Iran is not included in the current Royal Oman Police list of countries eligible for direct foreign-licence exchange and test exemption. An Iranian resident should therefore expect the standard Oman new-licence process, including the required final driving test, unless Royal Oman Police gives a different written decision for the individual case.

Royal Oman Police may ask for supporting verification when a foreign licence is not in Arabic or English or when its authenticity must be confirmed.
